My Broadway Shows

Growing up right outside of New York City made it very easy to go and see Broadway shows.  The first show I saw was the Lion King in 1999.  Through out my childhood I saw many different shows like Hairspray, Marry Poppins, Beauty and the Beast etc.  although I have seen many different shows there are two that stand out over all the others.  Starting with Lion King and then Wicked.  These two shows have stuck with me ever since I was a little kid which is why I think they are my favorite shows.

Lion King which could be considered one of the best Broadway shows is my number one favorite show.  This is because even though I was three when we saw it I knew the story because of the disney movie.  The show has great costumes and music.  Even as a three year old I remember being so amazed by the technicality by the actors controlling the animals.  I also like that although the songs from the movie are still in the show, they added a few new songs that are very catchy.  The cool thing looking back at that show was that when I saw it with my family it was still the original cast which made the experience even more special.  The Circle of Life by Tsidii Le Loka who was the original Rafiki, I think is extremely well done.

Wicked is also one of my favorite shows because as a kid my sister and even today really likes the Wizard of Oz movie.  This is obviously what Wicked is based off of.  It actually takes place before the Movie and how the witches became who they were.  This show I saw in 2004 when it was still new and with the original cast.  This was with Idina Menzel who played Elphaba.  Defying Gravity which is in my opinion one of the best songs in the entire show.  I also think that the rigging for Menzels character was a performed beautifully.

This project was one of the most enjoyable out of all of the other projects for me.  This is because it was a lot of fun seeing the piece come together and start looking like the actual image.  I chose the Olympic rings because the Olympics have been a big part of my family for as long as I can remember.  It is also one of the most well known symbols in the world today because many almost every country in the world participates in The Olympic Games.

Video Deconstruction

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wASs3pnfaGo This Piece I used an old project from COM 241.  The video describe the paranoia that people have of the concept of death.  This project definitely made me think about what I could do with this short movie of mine.  I soon thought that it could work perfectly as a horror short film.  This made the project some what easier because the footage worked so well as horror clips. So what I did was I completely made the footage black and white which gave the film a more ominous feeling.  I did not want to do much editing on the video itself, but focused more on the sound effects.  I think that the sound is the biggest part of horror films.  The fact that sound has a big part in what we fear is why I was focusing on it more. Xerox Project

My project is a Giraffe which I did in the style Surrealism.  It took me a little bit to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with the parts of my body that I scanned.  I scanned both my left and right hand along with my fore arm and the side of my face which i cut my ears out of to become the eyes of the giraffe.  I originally had it being a palm tree but it started to look more like a an animal that would be in a painting of one of Dali's paintings.  This is when I decided to transform it into a giraffe.  The body of the giraffe is made out of my two palms.  I think that although is not what I intended it to be that this works much better than just a tree.
